Communications coordinator for European journalism organisation

Part time, remote, parental leave cover March to end of year 2025, potential for extension

Arena for Journalism in Europe is looking for a communications coordinator, who can drive, manage and develop our daily communication.

Who are you?

We are looking for a person with broad communication experience from a similar position in an organisation, ideally in the European collaborative/investigative/data journalism field.

  • You have both journalism and communication skills, and you are able to combine hands-on work with long-term development.
  • You are self-driven, a strong planner and not afraid to take initiative.
  • You are used to considering different media channels and users/target groups, including funders.
  • You are comfortable with working remotely and independently, while staying in contact and sharing with colleagues from all over Europe.
  • You have excellent written and spoken English. Other European languages are an advantage, as is knowledge of the public interest journalism field and the actors in it.
  • You live in Europe.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • To run and develop the communications activities within Arena and manage the daily information flow in and about the organisation in accordance with our strategy;
  • To collaborate closely with the management, IT manager, and external graphic designer, in order to support colleagues across the organisation and their activities with communication tasks;
  • To participate in developing and executing communication plans;
  • To participate in branding development;
  • To identify and tell the stories of impact and successes on relevant platforms.

Who are we?

Arena for Journalism in Europe focuses on cross-border collaborative investigative journalism in Europe. We build topical networks for journalists and provide infrastructure for journalistic collaborations. We also arrange the annual Dataharvest – the European Investigative Journalism Conference and the annual Climate Arena Conference.

We have an international staff of around 16 people, distributed over Europe. We work remotely with English as our working language.

Are you interested?

The communication position is part-time (0,6 percent FTE). At this point, it is time-limited as a parental leave cover for our current communications coordinator, however depending on funding and the development of the communications team, both positions may continue in 2026. We expect approximately 20 travel days per year. Level of seniority / honorary range €58-68 000 for Full Time Equivalent (FTE).
