At Arena for Journalism in Europe, our mission is to support cross-border collaborative and investigative journalism that fosters democracy, mutual understanding, and critical thought across Europe. In line with this mission, we have decided to transition away from X (formerly Twitter).
Our decision is driven by ethical concerns, including X’s promotion of dubious and hateful content, its engagement in political campaigns detrimental to democracy, and its declining usability. The platform’s prioritization of revenue over user experience and its latest editorial evolution is contrary to our values, our mission, and our commitment to press freedom.
Operationally, from February 10, we will stop publishing on X. Our profile will remain active as an archive to prevent our account from being taken to spread disinformation under our handle.
