Apply for a Dataharvest 2026 participation grant

Arena is happy to offer a number of grants to help reduce financial barriers for journalists wishing to attend Dataharvest – the European Investigative Journalism Conference on 28-31 May in Mechelen, Belgium.

The deadline for all applications is 2 February 2026, 17:00 CET, and all grantees will be notified by mid-February.

The grants are designed for journalists in exile and journalists based in European countries with a lower average income. Successful applicants will receive a lump sum to cover travel and per diem costs, as well as a complimentary conference ticket and accommodation provided by Arena.

Eligible countries are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine. All European journalists in exile are eligible.

NB: These grants are in two groups, one supported by the Erste Foundation and organised in collaboration with BIRN (Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, and another supported by Zeit Stiftung and Fritt Ord. more than one grantmaker — the grant you apply for will depend on the country you are based in. Please ensure you apply using the correct form.
