Apply Now: IJ4EU Grants for Cross-Border Investigative Journalism

The Investigative Journalism for Europe (IJ4EU) fund has launched two new calls for proposals, offering significant grants to support cross-border investigative journalism.

Journalists and freelancers can apply for funding through both the Investigation Support Scheme or the Freelancer Support Scheme.

The Investigation Support Scheme offers up to €50,000 for teams of journalists — including newsrooms and specialist investigative outlets — working on ambitious cross-border investigations.

The Freelancer Support Scheme provides up to €20,000 for freelance journalists tackling transnational investigations.

Both schemes are open to projects that address cross-border issues and can be used to cover essential costs like salaries, research, travel, and translation.

The deadline for submissions is October 28, 2024, at 23:59 CET.

For full details on eligibility and how to apply, visit the IJ4EU website or sign up for the IJ4EU newsletter to keep in the loop.

As one of the consortium’s partners managing IJ4EU, Arena for Journalism in Europe provides “matchmaking assistance” for those looking to collaborate or scale up with colleagues in other countries.

During open calls for proposals, Arena also offers public Cross-Border Masterclasses to guide journalists in crafting work plans and writing stronger applications.

The next Cross-Border Masterclass will be on September 23 from 14:00 to 16:30 CEST.

This online seminar is designed to help journalists refine their investigation ideas, strengthen their grant applications, and connect with potential collaborators.

During the masterclass we will walk through the particularities of the cross-border, collaborative investigation process, focusing on selecting a topic and angle, finding your team, and preparing a work plan.

The overall purpose of the work plan is to get ready for your investigation — including an application for a work grant.

You can register here to attend the free event.
